The 78th Infantry Division WWII Living History Association
The
"Lightning Men" of the 78th Infantry, 309th Regiment landed in France on
November 22, 1944. Their purpose was to fight for freedom, democracy,
the American way, and most of all for each other. The Division was sent
to the infamous Hurtgen Forest for its baptism of fire. Although being a
"green outfit" the newcomers did an outstanding job. The 78th was the
Division to finally capture the German stronghold of Schmidt. After
taking part in the defensive fighting during the "Battle of the Bulge"
the 78th resumed the offensive capturing the Roer Dams. The Division
next participated in the taking of the Ludendorff Bridge.
Now over 65 years later, The 78th Infantry Division
WWII Living History Association is fighting to preserve the history of
and to honor the veterans who fought and gave their all so that we could
be here today. We are a 501-C Non-Profit organization that participates
in historical displays, WWII air shows and tactical re-enactments.
Through this The 78th Infantry Division WWII Living History Association
is helping to keep alive the memory of this outstanding division.
Over the
past several years the 78th has worked hard by donating their time and
sweat to become one of the premier WWII re-enactment units on the east
coast. The unit includes troops from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Each
member is a collector and historian of the U.S. Army in WWII. Each
contributes items from their own personal collection of original
uniforms, equipment and vehicles. All U.S. WWII weapons from pistols,
rifles, machine guns and mortars are represented. The 78th vehicle
collection includes an assortment of jeeps, a scout car and three
weasels.
One thing
that separates us from other
G.I. reenactment units is that we focus our efforts on a
Unit Impression — not an individual
one. By doing so we believe that we can best represent the United
States Army as it were during the days of World War II. Currently we
have a growing and stable membership base in New Jersey and Eastern
Pennsylvania.
The 78th
Infantry Division WWII Living History Association is always looking for
